Marc A. Hubbard
Marc Hubbard holds engineering and law degrees and has over thirty-five years’ experience in a wide range of intellectual property legal matters.
Admitted to the State Bar of Texas and registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office since the late 1980s, Marc represents entrepreneurs, startups, and established technology businesses in securing and enforcing intellectual property rights. His practice currently focuses on —
Advising clients on patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret protection strategies.
Writing and prosecuting patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office predominantly in the electrical, telecommunication, software, data security, mechanical, and materials fields.
Oversees patenting and trademark registration in other countries and manages global patent and trademark portfolios.
Counseling clients on the validity and infringement of patents and trademarks, designing around IP rights, reverse engineering, legal opinions on patent validity and infringement, and clearance and freedom to operate searches and reviews.
Providing counsel and representation involving IP rights in a wide range of business transactions, bankruptcy, and other matters.
Drafting and negotiating licensing and transfer agreements for intellectual property rights.
Marc has also testified as an expert witness in Federal district court on USPTO procedures.
Marc has taught patent prosecution at the Dedman School of Law of Southern Methodist University in Dallas as an adjunct clinical professor of law, planned and chaired legal education programs, lectured at legal education meetings, and participated in pro bono educational programs for the public. He has served as the chair of the IP section of the Dallas Bar Association, the chair of the Patent Law Committee of the AIPLA, and a member of the Board of Directors of the AIPLA. He is a member of the Barbara M.G. Lynn American Inn of Court in Dallas and a fellow of the Dallas Bar Association, the Texas Bar Foundation, and the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA).
His recognitions include the Dallas Bar Association’s Outstanding Section Award for his leadership of the Dallas Bar Association IP section; the AIPLA Project Award for guiding the work of the AIPLA’s Patentable Subject Matter Task Force; “Texas Super Lawyer” by Thompson Reuters, and D Magazine’s Best Lawyers in Dallas in patent law. Before starting Hubbard Law, Marc was a partner in the intellectual property groups of several large general practice firms in Dallas, Texas.
